Notes from the last rehearsal
Hello! Three rehearsals to go! And what a fun season it is! Thank you for making it so fun and rewarding! Time for a recap! I know this is a bit long but I wanted to get info out to people who can’t be at rehearsals .
On Wednesday, we spent some time working on marching and specifically a few things to make us look better:
We'll be marching 7 across and the center person is your guide. Using your left and right peripheral vision will help to keep those rows straight!
When marking time only the heel comes up, not the entire foot. Keeping your feet close together also keeps the upper body from bouncing and can make playing easier.
Left foot is on counts 1 and 3
We moved sousaphones and bari-saxes right behind the percussion to help keep the band together.
We worked on some of our concert songs (before it got too dark), especially focusing on the songs with tempo changes.
Next up: Monday's rehearsal!
1. We'll start with our concert music!
**Let's get our standing rows lined up more for our concerts.
**Instruments up and down together
2. During the second part of the rehearsal we will be marching with a focus on reviewing what we did on Wednesday and...
**spacing between rows (four steps)
**work on straight lines front to back
**halts (we will mark time let the cadence finish and a halt will be played)
**bringing instruments down at the end of the parade songs
**turns (as much as we can on the track)
**guide left when turning right,
guide right when turning left
**we will change direction on the track during one of the upcoming rehearsals too
** When I start the band from a standstill you will hear one long and four short whistles to begin marking time
Thank you and have a good weekend! Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mom’s!
